The Great Einstein

About this author:

Hi, my name is Ellie. I’m 9 years old, and I live in Renton, Washington. And I’m a storyteller. My 4-year-old brother, Bo, asked me to write a story about a guinea pig, a magical gem, and a wizard. Here it goes!

Many people have heard of Albert Einstein, but most people don’t know the whole story. He was actually a wizard. A long long time ago, Albert Einstein was in wizard training. He messed up his spells a lot, and so he was strictly forbidden from doing magic on his own. He also had a guinea pig named Gerald.

One day, Einstein was messing around with magic, even though he wasn’t supposed to, and he accidentally shrunk himself down to be Gerald size. He was also really smart, and he had read a lot of books. And one was about magic. And he remembered reading that there was a sacred forest just a few blocks away from his house. And in the forest, there was a magical gem that could reverse any spell. Einstein decided that he would go find the gem because he couldn’t grab his wand, so off they went.

And how did they get there, you might wonder? On Gerald’s back of course! Their journey was both spooky and cool, and they met some friends on the way. A bear named Tigger, a dear named Owl, and an owl named Deer. Einstein asked his new friends if they would be able to help him find the magical gem, and save him from the trouble he would surely be in if he was discovered.

So off all the friends went to find the gem. An unlikely group in a magical forest.

In Einstein’s book, he read that the gems were usually located high up, and they emitted a high frequency noise, that humans could not hear. But, there were also sneaky predators throughout the magical forest to be careful of.

Owl the deer was helpful in avoiding the predators, freezing at attention any time she sensed danger. Deer the owl, could hear mice crawling miles away, and spun his head around, saying “whooo, whoooo” alerting Einstein that he was able to hear the gem when they were close, nagivating them closer and closer.

Having Owl the deer guard below, and Tigger the bear spot Deer the owl, Deer was able to find the tree and fly up to the gem. The gem was too large for Deer the owl’s beak, and so Tigger the bear climbed the tree to retrieve it.

Bringing the gem down the tree, Tigger presented the gem to Einstein, who rubbed the gem and whispered an old spell. Suddenly Einstein returned to his normal size. The group began their journey back through the forest and back to Einstein’s house. At the edge of the forest, the group had to say their goodbyes, vowing to meet again if ever any of them found their way into trouble.

Sneaking back into the house, Einstein felt relieved, thinking he got away with using magic and messing it up. What he didn’t know was that his family had been watching him the whole time. With confetti flying everywhere, they congratulated him, saying “surprise! We knew you could do it! We’ve been waiting for you to do something independently since you were born. You’ve proven yourself. Through wit and friendship, you solved your own problem.

So the next time you think about Einstein and his accomplishments, just remember that even the great Einstein made great mistakes.
